Sisters Hospital Foundation, St. Joseph Fund is sponsoring a traditional St. Joseph’s Day Table for associates and visitors on Friday, March 18 from 12:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. in the community room of St. Joseph Campus (2605 Harlem Road, Cheektowaga).
Father Lou Klein, hospital chaplain, will bless the bread and food, which is being catered by The Golden Parachute Restaurant. Mass cards will be placed on all meal trays for patients as well.
St. Joseph the carpenter was the husband of Mary and the earthly father of Jesus. St. Joseph’s Day is traditionally celebrated on March 19, the birthday of St. Joseph, and honors all fathers.
In the Catholic tradition, St. Joseph’s Day falls during the fasting season of Lent and includes a meatless meal of Italian favorites. People gather at homes, churches, and other locations to enjoy traditional Italian recipes including pastas, fish, sweets, breads and fava beans.
Many other countries join the festivities, and since “Joseph” is such a common name, most families have at least one Giuseppe, Jozefa, José, Pepe, Joe or Josephine to share in the celebration.
