Sisters of Charity Hospital Sponsors Free Vascular Screening
September 4, 2011
According to the American Vascular Association, vascular disease continues to be under-diagnosed in the United States, despite its potential for complications like stroke, loss of limbs or death. Often there are no warning signs before serious medical complications occur.
To help detect vascular disease and alert the public to its potential health risks, Sisters of Charity Hospital and the Vascular & Endovascular Center of WNY are sponsoring a free “Vascular Screening” on Saturday, October 1 from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
The screening will be held at the hospital’s M. Steven Piver, MD Center for Women’s Health & Wellness located in the Seton Professional Building next to Sisters Hospital at 2157 Main St. in Buffalo.
The free screening is open to anyone over 60, who has one of more of the following medical conditions:
- high blood pressure,
- family history of heart disease,
- previous heart or leg treatments, and
- prior stroke.
The screening tests, which include carotid and aortic scans, PAD testing, a blood pressure check, cardiac risk assessment, and diabetic foot screening, are painless and take about 30 minutes to complete.
The screening program at Sisters is part of a national initiative sponsored by the American Vascular Association.
