September 14, 2011
In memory of the 10th anniversary of 9-11, Mercy Hospital's Associate Council coordinated a special 9-11 Remembrance Week.
On Fri., September 9, several Sisters of Mercy and Mercy associates gathered for a Mass in the Mercy Chapel, followed by a Blessing of a 9-11 memorial stone and new dogwood ‘Samaritan’ tree in the Mercy Meditation Garden. The blessing ceremony was conducted by Rev. Robert Mock of Trocaire College and Sister Geri Rosinski, RSM.

Throughout the week, associates and visitors at Mercy Hospital and all of the Mercy offsite facilities were invited to share written reflections or prayer requests on Prayer Cloths, which were presented at the Mass.
In addition, associates were encouraged to wear red, white and blue throughout the week.
On September 11, the flag at Mercy’s front entrance was flown at half mast and a Mass was held in the Mercy Chapel.
In addition, Sheila Lake, RN, (pictured below on the left) and Marianne Runfola, RN (pictured on the right), of the Mercy Hospital Neonatal Intensive Care Unit hand knitted red, white, and blue caps for all of Mercy's babies in honor of the 9 -1 1 Tenth Anniversary. The nurses have a tradition of knitting caps for special days and holidays for Mercy’s tiniest patients…even "pumpkin hats" for Halloween.
