The winter influenza (flu) season is right around the corner and Kenmore Mercy Hospital, in conjunction with the University of Buffalo, School of Pharmacy’s Lambda Kappa Sigma Professional Pharmacy Fraternity, is hosting a Flu Education & Vaccination Clinic on Friday, October 22 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the hospital’s Mural Room. The flu season generally runs from November to April. Flu shots are recommended for all people; however, those most at risk include:
The Catholic Health Flu Vaccine program is available to individuals 18 years of age and older.
“This is a simple and convenient way to protect yourself against the flu and a great opportunity to learn everyday prevention actions to stop the spread of germs,” said Frank Heinrich, pharmacy supervisor at Kenmore Mercy Hospital.
Because influenza viruses can change often, flu vaccines are updated each year to be as effective as possible. The Center for Disease Controls recommends the vaccine each year for maximum protection. While there are many different flu viruses, the flu vaccine protects against the three most common flu viruses.
The flu vaccines will be administered by appointment by pharmacists from Family Medical Pharmacy Inc. The clinic will also offer blood pressure and glucose screenings, as well as pharmacy consultations.
