On July 29, 2010 at 4 p.m., Practice Management Center, a Catholic Health business associate that provides billing services for physicians, notified personnel at Catholic Health that “documents placed in the garbage at their facility may have blown away.”
It was not known at that time if the documents contained personal information of Catholic Health patients or providers. Practice Management Center does have a Business Associate Agreement with Catholic Health to secure protected health information received from Catholic Health. They stated that their policy is to shred all information-documents. They were looking into the event as mentioned above.
On August 10, 2010, Catholic Health was notified that no information of Catholic Health patients or providers was involved in the incident. If at a future date there is evidence to the contrary, Practice Management Center will notify Catholic Health, who will in turn notify those involved.
Catholic Health has been assured that Practice Management Center has reviewed and revised all practices and policies to ensure future security of confidential and protected health information.
