Kenmore Mercy Hospital Medical Staff Honors Two Associates

December 16, 2010

Mark Basile, DPT and Carol Myers, RN

Physicians at Kenmore Mercy Hospital have chosen two individuals to receive the hospital’s Annual Medical Staff Award, recognizing outstanding associates for their service to patients and staff. This year’s recipients – Mark Basile, physical therapist and Carol Myers, RN – were announced during a special ceremony at the hospital.

Mark Basile, DPT, a resident of Kenmore, began his career at Kenmore Mercy Hospital in 2006. He is a graduate of Daemen College with a Bachelor of Science in Physical Therapy. He also received a clinical doctorate in Physical Therapy and his Geriatric Certified Specialist Certification from the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties. He enjoys sharing his expertise in physical therapy and has taught continuing education classes to the physical therapy staff. Basile also has been a clinical instructor to many physical therapy students.

Carol Myers, RN, a resident of the Town of Tonawanda, has been with Kenmore Mercy Hospital for over 40 years. She attributes her long career to her mother, who was a head nurse at Kenmore Mercy and influenced her to enter nursing. In fact, when Myers first joined the hospital in 1960, she volunteered and worked alongside her mother, who taught her the foundation of her nursing skills.

After working as a nurse’s aide, she graduated from the Highland Hospital School of Nursing in Rochester and returned to Kenmore Mercy Hospital to begin her nursing career in the Labor and Delivery Department. Today, she is a staff and charge nurse on the hospital’s 3 West unit.

“We are very proud of both Mark and Carol. They are well respected among her peers, patients, families and the physicians of Kenmore Mercy Hospital,” said David Serra, MD, a hospitalist physician and president of the hospital’s Medical Staff. “Their knowledge and skill level are a great asset to our patients and associates at Kenmore Mercy Hospital.”

Kenmore Mercy’s Medical Staff officers review nominees from throughout the hospital and honor two associates annually who live the hospital’s Mission to reveal the healing love of Jesus to those in need.
