Sisters Hospital Hosts Free Breast Cancer Screening

January 14, 2010

Knowledge is power – especially when it comes to the early detection of breast cancer – and an annual mammogram is still a woman’s best protection to safeguard her health. Don’t let the lack of insurance stop you from getting the care you deserve.

Sisters of Charity Hospital and the Cancer Services Program of Erie County are teaming up to offer a free breast cancer screening for women without health insurance on Saturday, February 20 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the new M. Steven Piver, M.D. Center for Women’s Health & Wellness. The Center, located in the hospital’s Seton Professional Building at 2121 Main Street in Buffalo, offers new state-of-the-art digital mammography.

Breast cancer is the second most common cancer in women and the leading cause of cancer-related deaths in women ages 40-55. According to the National Cancer Institute, one in eight American women will develop breast cancer in her lifetime.

The free mammography screening takes about 20 minutes to complete.

Eligibility

This free breast cancer screening is open to women age 40 or older who do not have health insurance. Eligible participants can also register for additional no-cost screening services. Light refreshments will be served. Appointments are necessary.
