Catholic Health Steps Up Visitor Control Measures

With the recent surge of reported cases of people diagnosed with the H1N1 (swine flu) virus in Western New York, Catholic Health is tightening its restrictions on the age of visitors at its hospitals and nursing homes.

In keeping with current visitor control policies, no visitors under the age of 14 will be permitted at:

Kenmore Mercy Hospital
Mercy Hospital of Buffalo
Sisters of Charity Hospital
Sisters of Charity Hospital, St. Joseph Campus

Sibling visitations have also been suspended in the Maternity Departments at Sisters Hospital and Mercy Hospital.

The restrictions also extend to Catholic Health’s long-term care (nursing home) facilities, including:

Father Baker Manor in Orchard Park
McAuley Residence (at Kenmore Mercy Hospital)
Mercy Nursing Facility at OLV Campus in Lackawanna
St. Francis of Williamsville
St. Francis of Buffalo
St. Catherine Labouré Health Care Center (at Sisters Hospital) in Buffalo

“Catholic Health is taking this common sense precautionary measure to protect hospitalized patients, newborns and nursing home residents who may have less of a resistance to the H1N1 virus,” said Dr. Brian D’Arcy, Senior Vice President of Medical Affairs for the health system. “We would also like to remind all visitors to practice good hand hygiene and to refrain from visiting patients, newborn infants and nursing home residents if they are experiencing any cold or flu-like symptoms.”
