Mercy Hospital of Buffalo, a New York State Designated Stroke Center, will hold a community-wide Stroke Awareness Fair on Saturday, June 6, 2009 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Mercy Hospital, 565 Abbott Road in Buffalo, 5th floor Main Building.

The event is free and open to the public. Free parking will be available in the Mercy Hospital Parking Ramp for those attending the fair.

The Stroke Awareness Fair will feature free health screenings, including carotid ultrasound (Stroke), cholesterol, glucose (Diabetes), blood pressure, and BMI-Body Mass Index, along with valuable information to learn more about the signs, symptoms and risk factors for stroke.

In addition, the event will feature free healthy refreshments, as well as diet and nutritional information.

During the event, physician specialists will be available for questions, including Peterkin Lee-Kwen, M.D., Medical Director, Mercy Hospital Stroke Center; Lee Guterman, Ph.D., M.D., Medical Director, Catholic Health Stroke Services; and Jeannie Koenig, M.D., Mercy Hospital Medical Rehabilitation Unit.

The event is sponsored by Siemens and Catholic Health, Western New York’s largest network of designated stroke centers.
