As part of a strategic focus to better integrate its clinical services, Catholic Health has named Richard J. Ruh, MD, senior vice president, Service Lines. A primary care physician with a private medical practice in Orchard Park, Dr. Ruh will provide oversight for the continued development of Catholic Health’s clinical service lines, which include Vascular Disease, made up of Cardiac, Stroke and Vascular services; Women’s Services; Orthopedics; and Oncology.

“Aligning our medical services under clinical service lines allows us to enhance quality and service, streamline care, and improve outcomes for our patients,” said Joe McDonald, president & CEO of Catholic Health. “As a primary care physician, Dr. Ruh understands the importance of clinical integration in healthcare delivery and providing patients with a more coordinated patient care experience.”

Initially, Dr. Ruh will focus on the development of Catholic Health’s Vascular Medicine and Women’s Services clinical service lines. “We already have some of the finest physicians and among the most advanced medical technology in the region,” said Dr. Ruh. “By focusing our energies on coordinating these services across our system, we are bringing national models of care to the people of Western New York.”

Dr. Ruh has been a member of Catholic Health’s Board of Directors since 2007, serving on the board’s Executive Committee and as chairman of its Finance Committee. He has served as vice president of Medical Affairs and vice president of the Medical Staff at Mercy Hospital of Buffalo. He is also a member of the Catholic Independent Practice Association (CIPA), serving on its Board of Directors from 2000-2005 and as its chairman from 2003-2004.

Along with his sister and medical partner, Jennifer Ruh, MD, Dr. Richard Ruh has introduced many innovative quality initiatives in his own medical practice. “Dr. Ruh has a clear vision of what patients need and want from their healthcare providers,” McDonald continued. “He is also a respected leader in the local physician community, bringing with him the physician’s perspective to service line development.”

Over the next year, Dr. Ruh will gradually transition from his private medical practice to become a fulltime member of Catholic Health’s Senior Leadership Team. “By developing our clinical service lines, Catholic Health will not only improve the quality of care available to patients in our hospitals and health centers, but more importantly, will raise the bar on clinical care in our community,” he said.
