Catholic Health Home Care has opened its own free-standing pharmacy to better meet the home infusion needs of its patients throughout Western New York.

“This is a new business for us, but not a new service,” explains Joyce Markiewicz, President & CEO of Catholic Health Home Care. “We have been providing home infusion services for over 13 years, contracting with an independent pharmacy. Over the last few years, however, we have seen a marked increase in our home infusion business, so it made sense to establish our own pharmacy and provide a greater continuity of care for our patients.”

The greatest challenge for Home Care was finding the right space to launch its new pharmacy. With limited space at its home base at the Appletree Business Park, Home Care looked to its current pharmacy vendor – American Home Patient – who was interested in transferring ownership of its infusion pharmacy located at 6350 Transit Road in Depew.

Home Care purchased the pharmacy business in early February, and after making minor renovations to the site reopened under Catholic Health Home Care in March. John Russell, a Clinical Pharmacist with 15 years of home infusion experience, has been named Pharmacy Director. Several former associates of American Home Patient have also joined the Home Care pharmacy staff providing needed experience and continuity.

“This is a great opportunity for Home Care to provide an enhanced level of service to our patients, referring physicians and nursing staff by creating a seamless point of entry for all our home infusion needs,” Markiewicz added. “It also creates a new business line for Home Care with exciting growth opportunities.”

With additional space at the pharmacy site, Home Care will also be moving its Billing Department, Home Response Service and Telemonitoring Center to the Transit Road location.
