Mercy Hospital’s Family Birthplace Opens New Private Rooms and Suites

A blessing and ribbon cutting ceremony were held on August 5 at the Mercy Hospital Family Birthplace to celebrate the opening of all-private patient rooms including four new Celebration Suites, and a new family waiting area.

The recently completed $1.8 million renovation of the Family Birthplace converted all 26 patient rooms to private status. Each modernized patient room features special touches to make patients and their families as comfortable as possible, including a private bath and shower, new furnishings, and a sleeper sofa for loved ones. 

“Our new private rooms will provide families with a beautiful setting to enjoy their new arrivals and further enhance the entire patient care experience at Mercy’s Family Birthplace,” said Mary Ann Murphy, Director of Mercy’s Maternal Child Services.

Catholic Health and Mercy Hospital officials join Maternity Unit staff to cut the ribbon on the new private patient rooms and Celebration Suites.

The new Celebration Suites offer patients and their families all the comfort and amenities of upscale “hotel-like” accommodations to celebrate the arrival of their newborn. The suites feature flat screen TVs, private closet, shower and bath, a dining area complete with refrigerator and a hot beverage dispenser, as well as a double sleeper sofa for loved ones.

About 2,400 babies are born each year at the Family Birthplace. The Unit features a full-term Nursery and a Level II Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), both equipped with the latest technology available. Birthing rooms are designed for labor, delivery and recovery, including four rooms equipped with Jacuzzi whirlpool tubs.¬¬ In addition, Mercy Hospital offers perinatology services for high-risk pregnancy cases and other specialized testing.
