Kenmore Mercy Hospital will host a series of free health and wellness programs as part of Healthy Strides, a six-week community-wide effort to help local residents improve their mind, body and spirit. Healthy Strides will feature a variety of activities at numerous locations throughout the Ken-Ton area to help families reduce their risk for stroke, diabetes, and heart disease and live healthier lives.
All programs at Kenmore Mercy (listed below) will be held in the hospital’s Community Room.
May 6, 7 p.m. – How to Talk to Your Doctor
Your relationship with your doctor can affect your care. Dr. Giuseppina J. Kenyon Savard, a Family Practice physician at Kenmore Mercy, will discuss how to make the most of your time with your doctor, how to better prepare for your appointment, and how you and your physician can share information and work together to make the best healthcare decisions.
May 20, 7 p.m. – Are You At Risk For Stroke?
(Free glucose and blood pressure screening from 7:30 – 9 p.m.)
Stroke is the third leading cause of death and long-term disability in the U.S. Cathy Mulawka, Kenmore Mercy Stroke Unit Clinical Advisor, will discuss the signs, symptoms, and how to reduce your risk of stroke.
June 3, 7 p.m. – Who Will Make Your Healthcare Decisions When You Can’t?
If you are unable, even temporarily, to make healthcare decisions, someone else must decide for you. Joan Davis, RN, Catholic Health Continuing Care Physician Liaison, and Kathy Kanaley, Patient Representative at Kenmore Mercy, will discuss how to ensure your wishes are followed using Advance Directives, including a living will, healthcare power of attorney, medical orders for life sustaining treatment, and healthcare proxy.
June 4, 12 noon – Body, Mind & Spirit: How They Affect Your Health
No one knows for sure how spirituality is related to health, however research shows that positive beliefs, comfort and strength gained from religion, meditation and prayer can contribute to healing and a sense of well-being. Kenmore Mercy Hospital Chaplain Laura Ulicky-Weerts will discuss the body, mind and spirit connection. Light refreshments will be served.
June 10, 7 p.m. – Partial Knee Replacement Made Simpler
