Registered Nurses at Kenmore Mercy Ratify New Contract

September 14, 2009

Registered nurses at Kenmore Mercy Hospital, represented by Communication Workers of America (CWA) Local 1133, have ratified a new contract agreement during a vote held today. The nurses approved the four-year agreement. The new contract, which covers 279 nurses, will run through January 31, 2013.

“Kenmore Mercy has among the best nursing care in our community and we know how important quality nursing care is to the continued growth and development of our hospital,” said James Millard, President & CEO of Kenmore Mercy Hospital. “That is why we are so pleased to be able to reward and recognize our nurses for their outstanding commitment and dedication to our patients.”

The new four-year deal calls for annual wage increases totaling 16 percent, with retroactive pay increases dating back to January 2009. It also includes a longevity bonus for nurses with 20 or more years of service; increases in preceptor pay, charge pay and shift differential; increases in health insurance contributions for part-time associates; and enhancements to extended sick leave, tuition reimbursement, and hospital discounts.

“We made a commitment to our nurses to offer competitive wages and benefits despite an overall weak economy,” Millard continued. “Today’s vote represents a significant opportunity for Kenmore Mercy to continue with plans to improve care and services throughout our community. It also gives us the opportunity to publicly thank our nurses for all they do for the patients we serve.”
