Catholic Health Receives $10.2M in HEAL NY Grants

Governor David Paterson has announced that Catholic Health will receive grants totaling $10.2 million under the State’s Health Care Efficiency and Affordability Law for New Yorkers (HEAL NY). The grant awards will be used to enhance programs and facilities throughout Catholic Health including emergency, primary care, along with care to the elderly.

“We are extremely pleased with the Governor’s announcement and what it will mean for our patients and clinical staff who work hard each day to provide the highest quality care,” said Joseph McDonald, President & CEO of Catholic Health. “These grants will help us continue to redesign healthcare delivery in our region and make further improvements to expand access and enhance quality. We are grateful to Governor Paterson and New York State Health Commissioner Richard F. Daines for recognizing the important role we play in improving the health of our community. Now we can move forward in developing these projects for implementation.” The grant awards to Catholic Health are as follows:

• Sisters Hospital will receive a $3.8 million award toward the expansion of the hospital’s Emergency Department
• A $5 million grant has been awarded to Catholic Health to redesign it long term care facilities to better serve the needs of the elderly
• A $1.4 million grant will go towards the construction of a primary care “supercenter” to be operated by Mercy Hospital. A supercenter offers a wide range of healthcare services in one location. The facility will offer a complete array of primary care and support services and will be located at the current Mercy Health Center on South Park Avenue in Buffalo. The program would bring the services of the Mercy Adult Center, Mercy OB/GYN Center, and Mercy Pediatric Center from the Marian Professional Building on Abbott Road to the South Park location.
