Area Restaurants "Dine Out" for OLV
November 3, 2008
Three Southtowns area restaurants are joining together for a special fundraising event, “Dining out for OLV Senior Neighborhood,” on Tuesday, November 18 from 4:30 to 9:30 p.m. Area residents are invited to visit the participating restaurants which include: Ilio Di Paolo’s Restaurant, 3785 South Park Avenue in Blasdell (825-3675); Curly’s Bar & Grill, 647 Ridge Road in Lackawanna (824-9716); and Mulberry Café, 64 Jackson Avenue in Lackawanna (822-4292). Reservations are recommended.
A portion of the proceeds from the evening’s dinner receipts will go to support the OLV Senior Neighborhood’s new “Main Street” concourse. A one-of-a-kind senior living community, the OLV Senior Neighborhood includes the Victory Ridge Senior Apartments, the Mercy Nursing Facility at OLV, and the LIFE (Living Independently For Seniors) program, a medical adult day program for nursing home eligible participants, scheduled to open next Spring.
“This is one way the local restaurant community can help support the continued rebirth of the former hospital campus,” said Dennis DiPaolo, organizer of the event. “We invite our friends and neighbors from throughout the area to come out and enjoy some great food while supporting this great project.”
Representatives from the OLV Senior Neighborhood, which is part of Catholic Health, will be on hand at each restaurant with more information on the facility’s “Main Street” concourse – the final piece of senior living complex which occupies the former Our Lady of Victory Hospital.
The “Main Street” portion of the project – an indoor concourse which will include a chapel, barber/beauty shop, gift shop, lab collection site, and history museum – is expected to begin construction early next year.
In October, the OLV Senior Neighborhood unveiled the first phase of the project, the Cotroneo Café, named in honor of Dr. Vincent S. Cotroneo, a family physician who served on the medical staff at OLV Hospital for more than 60 years.
